Today on "Kresta in the Afternoon" - March 23, 2012

Talking about the "things that matter most" on March 23

4:00 – Kresta Comments
Today tens of thousands of Americans took to the streets in 140 cities across the country to stand up for religious liberty. Al spoke in Detroit, MI. Nick spoke in Ann Arbor, MI and each of those rallies alone attracted about 1,500 participants each. Al reviews the issues, the events, and what is at stake.

4:20 – “October Baby”
“October Baby” is the story of a 19 year-old girl named Hannah. As the film begins, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannah she collapses in front of the stunned audience. After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. She has had seizures, asthma, hip surgeries and other medical issues. But in a discussion with her doctor and parents – she finds out that she was actually adopted … after a failed abortion attempt at 24 weeks. We have a review today with Nick Thomm.

4:40 Is America Losing its Demographic Advantage?
In the latest step in her campaign for fitness, Michelle Obama told U.S. soldiers that obesity is a national-security issue. The Pentagon reports that about a quarter of the American youths seeking to don the uniform are too fat to fight, and that a billion dollars a year is spent on medical care related to overweight and obese troops. Overlooked in the narrative is the reason the United States has survived this threat to military readiness so far. The antidote has been hearty U.S. population numbers. In other words, American demographic exceptionalism. Are we losing that demographic exceptionalism? Susan Yoshihara is here to answer that question.
