UK's Chief Medical Officer: 'sex-selective' abortions wrong and illegal

(The Telegraph) The Chief Medical Officer is to write to all abortion clinics to remind them of their responsibilites after The Daily Telegraph discovered that women were being granted illegal abortions based on the sex of their unborn baby.

Doctors at British clinics have been secretly filmed agreeing to terminate foetuses purely because they are either male or female.
Clinicians admitted they were prepared to falsify paperwork to arrange the abortions even though it is illegal to conduct such “sex-selection” procedures.

The Health Secretary Andrew Lansley is to report the abortion clinics and doctors to the police and General Medical Council.
Mr Lansley said: "If this is happened not only is it criminal act but it entails professionals falsifying the reports. It's a shocking thing to have bappened. We will follow it up urgently."
