New Jersey man ordered to remove cross from his front yard

Citing zoning ordinances, officials in Livingston, New Jersey, have twice ordered a homeowner to remove a cross from his front yard.

Patrick Racaniello placed the first cross, which measured 31-by-19 inches, on a tree in commemoration of Lent. Police ordered him to remove the cross following a complaint from a neighbor.

The township’s attorney has told the Alliance Defense Fund, which defends religious liberty, that “he is recommending changes to Livingston’s ordinance so no one can use it to apply to crosses.”
